You Are What You Eat

Happy 2024! The year has started off in a big way with our documentary "You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment" dropping on Netflix in 130 countries. It’s currently ranked #3 in the US on Netflix, which is so crazy! Collaborating with Oscar-winning director Louie Psihoyos and scientist Christopher Gardner, has been an incredible honor.

The four-episode documentary follows the journey of identical twins who undertake either a plant-based or an omnivorous diet. Over the course of eight weeks, we tracked their progress, offering unique insights into the impact of these diets on health and well-being.

My role within the study was to conduct #DexaFit scans, RMR, and VO2 Max tests, determining the true body composition and fat distribution of each twin before they started their new diets and throughout the study. I was labeled the “destroyer of dreams” by the twins. And you know what? I am ok with that because data always speaks the truth!

The #Dexa scans provided us with a cutting-edge alternative to the very antiquated BMI (Body Mass Index) calculations that you may get after your yearly physical. If you’ve had a chance to watch the series, you’ll see my blood pressure rise at the mere mention of “BMI.” Body Mass Index, or BMI, which considers your height and weight, but doesn’t take into account your muscle mass and overall body composition. The bottom line is, it doesn’t matter what your scale says or what pant size you wear. If you don’t have muscle, you’re unhealthy, and that’s why I think “BMI is dog shit!”

This film is a catalyst for a paradigm shift in how we perceive diet and health and makes us think twice about where our food comes from. It underscores the importance of moving beyond conventional metrics and embracing a more holistic view of health and wellness.

I can't wait for you to watch "You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment." It's an eye-opener and a conversation starter about the choices we make daily that shape our health! I can guarantee that you’ll think twice before you bite into a fast food burger. Because after all, you are what you eat!
